Finnish Games Week 2026 - Sponsorship Opportunities

This newsletter shares the good news of the Finnish game industry once a month. The content is intended to be an interesting news roundup both for separate newsletter subscribers and for media representatives interested in games.

September brought news of new games, major updates and intriguing ventures beyond traditional gaming. It was encouraging to see such a broad range of platforms represented, from mobile devices to PCs and consoles. Finnish games also received awards, this time for their environmental initiatives. Meanwhile, MiTale continues to expand and is entering game publishing. October will once again celebrate Finnish Games Week, bringing together three conferences and a Steam event.

1. New game releases and updates in September 2026

Pepperbox Studios’ indie hit Dice of Kalma received its version 1.6 update introducing four different skull types to the PC game. These open intriguing new tactical possibilities. The game, which has surpassed one million downloads, also received smaller updates and fixes.

Detective VR is a gripping private detective thriller full of mysteries to investigate and puzzles to unravel. Players question suspects, examine evidence and solve cases by scrubbing through the timeline. The game is now available on Steam and PlayStation VR2.

Channel37 announced major news for its action-adventure game The Last Caretaker. Version 6.0 will arrive on PC in October, expanding the game with new features. This will be followed by the full version 1.0 release next spring, when the game will also launch on Xbox.

Lost Tactics by This Time Around combines tactical, turn-based combat with card game mechanics. Different card combinations create new ways to battle a wide variety of enemies. Currently in beta, the game is available for free on Google Play.

MiTale has expanded the fantasy world of Willow Guard beyond games. The graphic novel Willow Guard: Awakening builds on the game’s story in a new format, adding depth to its mythology. It is available in digital and print editions directly from the publisher.

Brass Rain, an action game developed and published by Yarnhub Animation Studios, surpassed 150,000 Steam wishlists in September. Scheduled for release next year, the game portrays World War II through real events and battles. Players can expect infantry combat, tanks and wartime heroics.

Black Smoke Studios contributed to the development of OMYOG’s action game Ferocious for Xbox, which has now been released. The game offers a survival experience on a hostile island inhabited by dinosaurs, mechs, mercenaries and other dangers.

Plebeian Studio has released its fighting game Gladio Mori on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game supports cross-platform play and multiplayer for up to four players.

Phobos Down, a twin-stick shooter developed and published by FRACTiLE Games, is now free to play on Steam. Its fast-paced sci-fi world is procedurally generated, making every playthrough different.

Remedy Entertainment released the highly anticipated follow-up to its popular action game. CONTROL Resonant combines the original game’s New Weird themes with intriguing supernatural elements, thrilling action gameplay and touches of horror. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom, a mobile shooter developed by Nitro Games, is now available on the App Store and Google Play. The game takes players into the grim world of Warhammer 40,000 packed with frenetic action and fierce enemy encounters.

Developer and publisher 10tons has announced JYSTICE, a top-down shooter. A playable demo is now available for free on Steam, with an early access release coming soon. Alongside single-player gameplay, the game features multiplayer for two to four players.

2. Finnish Games Week takes place in October

Finnish Games Week is an annual event bringing together three conferences in Helsinki: Leadership Day by IGDA Finland, Pocket Gamer Connects Nordic and W Love Games. This year’s event takes place on 19–23 October, bringing leading games industry professionals to Helsinki, Finland. As part of the celebration of Finnish games, a Steam event returns for its second edition, with a week of online activations on Twitch, YouTube and Steam on 12–18 October. The program will showcase hundreds of games made in Finland over the years.

3. Rovio and Supercell win awards for their environmental initiatives

The winners of the 2026 Green Games Awards have been announced. Rovio Entertainment’s Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Dream Blast was recognized as the best fundraising games, while Supercell’s hit game Hay Day won the Players’ Choice award. The awards span 11 categories, recognizing achievements in areas including sustainable game design and environmental storytelling.

4. MiTale expands into game publishing

MiTale will continue as an independent studio developing its own original game IPs and interactive experiences, while expanding into publishing for indie developers and studios. As a publisher, MiTale aims to help independent creators bring their games to wider audiences and realize the broader potential of their IPs. Its approach centers on transmedia development and publishing strategy. MiTale helps creators explore how their game worlds, characters and stories can grow beyond a single release and identify the formats best suited to them.
