Community-driven computer magazine Skrolli seeks crowdfunding for an international issue

Skrolli, the community-driven, three-year old computer culture magazine from Finland, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the publication of its first international issue. The Indiegogo campaign is seeking a minimum of $15,000 and it will run until late February 2016.

“There is no magazine quite like Skrolli available anywhere else”, says Ville-Matias “viznut” Heikkilä, Editor-in-Chief. “We already have a fairly strong position among the Finnish hobbyist scene, but we are naturally looking to expand our target audience. One of our key strengths is that we write about a wide range of topics. Internationally, there are a few publications that focus on specific areas of computer culture, but none of them offers such an extensive range of expertise and different topics as Skrolli.”

If the crowdfunding goal is met, the first International Edition will be published in April 2016. The special issue will mainly consist of translated articles that have previously been published in Finnish. Whether more international issues are published will depend on the success of the campaign. “If the campaign is well received, we may start publishing two versions side-by-side: one in Finnish and another in English”, Heikkilä adds.

The international version of Skrolli is made and printed in Finland. A high-quality print shop with an eco-friendly process will be used. “This not the lowest price that we could do this for, but I believe that our target group will value a high-quality process that is also ecological”, says Senior Editor Mikko Heinonen.

The perks in the campaign start at $10, which buys you a digital copy of the magazine. The printed product will cost $19 including shipping to anywhere in the world. Other perks include T-shirts, a reseller package of 100 magazines and advertising space in the international issue.
